Nel mese di luglio 2022 si è svolta nelle zone montane del Friuli Venezia Giulia l’attività addestrativa High Blaze 2022.

Organizzata e condotta dalla Royal Netherlands Air Force (Koninklijke Luchtmacht), l’attività ha coinvolto gli elicotteri CH-47F Chinook, AH-64 Apache e AS-532 Cougar rispettivamente del 298° Sqn, 301 Sqn e 300 Sqn.
Elicotteri e personale sono stati rischierati, per l’intera durata delle esercitazioni, presso l’Aeroporto “Pagliano e Gori” di Aviano, sede del 31st Fighter Wing dell’USAF.
La High Blaze, da svariati anni condotta in Friuli Venezia Giulia (ad Aviano o Rivolto), consiste in una serie di attività di volo notturno e diurno atte a garantire la preparazione del personale in uno scenario montuoso e con una conformazione territoriale non presente nei Paesi Bassi.
Presenti quest’anno ad Aviano 13 elicotteri (5 Apache, 3 Cougar e 5 Chinook) e circa 200 militari olandesi.
Si sono addestrati nel volo in montagna, nei vari spots previsti, circa 70 tra piloti ed operatori di bordo.
L’edizione 2022 della High Blaze ha visto il primo impiego in questo tipo di esercitazione e nel volo in montagna dei nuovi Boeing CH-47F Chinook, recentemente entrati in servizio nel 298 Sqn.
Il 22 dicembre 2021 infatti, l’ultimo CH-47D della Royal Netherlands Air Force, registrazione D-667 e soprannominato “Rodney”, ha effettuato il suo ultimo volo. Gli 11 CH-47D olandesi ancora in servizio sono stati sostituiti da 14 nuovi elicotteri Boeing CH-47F MYII CAAS (Common Avionics Architecture System), portando il totale di Chinook RNLAF a 20, con i sei CH-47F già esistenti, modernizzati e portati allo stesso standard MYII CAAS del resto della flotta.

In July, High Blaze 2022 training activity took place in the mountain areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia region, Italy.
Organized and conducted by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (Koninklijke Luchtmacht), the activity involved the CH-47F Chinook, AH- 64 Apache and AS-532 Cougar respectively of 298th Sqn, 301 Sqn and 300 Sqn.
Helicopters and personnel were deployed, for the entire duration of the exercises, at the “Pagliano and Gori” Airport of Aviano, home to the 31st Fighter Wing of the USAF.
The High Blaze, for several years organized and conducted in Friuli (in Aviano or Rivolto AB) consists of a series of night and daytime flight activities aimed at guaranteeing the preparation of flight personnel in a mountainous scenario and with a territorial conformation not present in the Netherlands.
12 helicopters and about 200 Dutch soldiers were present in Aviano this year. About 70 pilots and on-board operators trained in mountain flying in the various spots.
The 2022 edition of the High Blaze saw the first use in this type of exercise and in the mountain flight of the new Dutch Boeing CH-47F Chinooks.
In fact, on 22 December 2021, the last CH-47D of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, registration D-667 and nicknamed “Rodney”, made its last flight. The 11 Dutch CH-47Ds still in service have been replaced by 14 new Boeing CH-47F MYII CAAS (Common Avionics Architecture System) helicopters, bringing the total of Chinook RNLAF fleet to 20, with the six existing CH-47Fs modernized and upgraded to same MYII CAAS standard as the rest of the fleet.
